Childcraft : The How and Why Library (Rainbow edition) Various

This is a 15 volume set of Childcraft: The How and Why Library. These booksare great for reading to and with young children. It is the rainbow version, with each volume a different color. This set has a previous owner's namein the front of the first volume and is in good shape, with minor wear atthe corners of some volumes and sometimes a little at the top or bottom ofa spine. These have wonderful vintage illustrations and the contents are drawn from various literary sources, some of them quite notable. The first volume, for example, is Poems and Rhymes and includes poems from Christina Rossetti, Robert Louis Stevenson, A.A. Milne, Langston Hughes, etc. plus nursery rhymes. There is an index of authors and a title index at the back of the book, making it easy to find certain things, plus a list of illustrators. The 15 volumes include 1. Poems and Rhymes 2. Signed Westercon 37 program book Various
1st Edition Softcover Near Mint
This is a very special item for science fiction collectors, not only a hilarious and perfect parody of a famous magazine in the field, but a collection of first appearances of the work of several award-winning writers. PLUS it is signed by Edward Bryant, and I believe it was his personal copy, whichhe donated to the Funds for Literacy Auction at Denver's Mile High Con last fall. (The note which went along for the auctioneer's use is included.)
The cover art is by Artist Guest of Honor Alex Schomburg. The cover itselfis an spot-on replication of the look of Fantasy and Science Fiction, the longest running sf magazine in existence. Included among the convention information are articles by David Gerrold, George R. R. Martin, and the 1st appearance (in this form) of a piece by Harlan Ellison called "A Love Song toJerry Falwell".
In fiction, there is a Vonda McIntyre story and a pulp story parody, written as fan fiction, by F. M. Busby. Edward Bryant contributed an excerpt froma novel in progress, which he has signed in this copy. This item also features the first publication of John Varley's story, "The Manhattan Phone Book (Abridged)".
This program book is in excellent condition, and will be packed so as to arrive at your home still looking almost new!
